Before Starting School

We do not have a preschool.

If you homeschool in their early years. We have found homeschooling that focuses on a growth mindset and gives clear boundaries/expectations with the freedom to explore is a good fit.

Montessori is an ideal school background before starting at Aspire Savannah. We use many Montessori elements in our Spark Studio.

This age group learns through play. Play and learning to be a good friend is time well spent. Key skills to develop at this time to be successful in our Spark Studio are: Being able to treat peers with respect and kindness. Being able to share and be a respectful play partner. Being able to respect stop signals and verbal stop requests from peers.

If you are homeschooling and want to avoid investing in physical materials, Monessorium has free quality apps. These three are foundational:

Intro to Letters
Intro to Words
Intro to Math

Whole language, picture cueing, overuse of sight words... many commonly used techniques can hurt literacy long-term. Toddlers CAN Read with Spencer Russell (toddlersread.com) uses best practices for a solid foundation that will pay off for years.

Big Life Journal is a resource to help develop a growth mindset. Being able to take on challenges, not fear failure and be resilient are all skills that lead to success in Acton's learner-driven environment.

Having chores and responsibilities around the house is an excellent way to prepare for our studio as well. Inspiration and ideas can be found here and here.
